Former Head Of Teacher Union In Arlington, Virginia Arrested After Embezzling Over $400,000

Published

on

Teacher unions have come under increased public scrutiny in recent years and for good reasons. Teacher unions are completely allied with the Democrat party and use their money and membership to influence elections.

In Arlington, Virginia, the former president of the local teacher union was recently arrested, when it was discovered that she has allegedly embezzled over $400,000 through faulty bonuses and other self-rewards.

The Washington Free Beacon reports:

A former Virginia teachers’ union president was arrested on Monday for pilfering more than $400,000 from her organization.

Ingrid Gant, who led the Arlington Education Association for six years, was charged with four counts of embezzlement following a six-month investigation, the Fairfax County Police Department announced in a press release. An independent auditor who worked with police found that Gant awarded herself many bonuses and improperly made charges to her organization’s debit cards.

Gant is the second teachers’ union head to face charges for abuse of funds just this month. In a strikingly similar case, a former teachers’ union treasurer in Reading, Pa., was charged on Jan. 6 for embezzling more than $400,000 since 2016, the Reading Eagle reported. The treasurer resigned in September when confronted with the improper expenditures.

June Prakash, the president of the Arlington Education Association, declined to comment. Her organization says it “is pursuing all legal channels to recoup any lost funds and hold those responsible accountable.”

But it’s all about the children, right?

Teacher unions are standing in the way of school choice.

They don’t care about students, they care about money and political power.

Top Iowa Republicans Freeze Trump Out And Don’t Return His Calls

Published

on

Top Iowa Republicans from the governor on down aren’t returning Donald Trump’s phone calls and are not committing to support him in 2024.

Bloomberg reported:

The former president, itching to seal up support early in what remains a key state in the Republican presidential contest, has checked in with Iowa influencers who have stood by him in the past.

Senators Chuck Grassley and Governor Kim Reynolds didn’t answer when he telephoned recently, and neither of them are willing to give their party’s former leader their nod this early, according to people familiar with the matter. Nor are Joni Ernst or other top state elected officials.

Republicans are not so subtlety freezing Donald Trump out. It isn’t 2016 anymore or even 2020. Trump expected the Republican Party to line up behind him, but instead, they are pretending like they are too busy to take his calls.

Trump’s strength is with the rank and file of the Republican Party. Unlike Democrats, the Republican Party has been driven by a fear of the base. Democrats tend to try to appeal to their base and move with them. Republicans live in terror of the base turning on them and tossing them out of office.

If the Republican leadership decides to rally around someone else, but the base stays with Trump, the odds are that weak elected Republicans will rally around the former president, but so far Republicans in Iowa are seeing Trump’s number and refusing to pick up.

Five ex-Memphis police officers were charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping on Thursday in the death of a black motorist.

The officers, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith – were fired on Friday after the motorist, Tyre Nichols, died following a violent confrontation during a January 7 traffic stop.

Video of the police officers beating Tyre Nichols will be released on Friday at 6 pm local time, the DA said.

“The actions of all of them resulted in the death of Tyre Nichols and they are all responsible,” Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy told reporters.

NBC News reported:

Five former Memphis police officers were indicted Thursday on murder charges in the death of Tyre Nichols, whose beating following a traffic stop was captured on video that “sickened” a top Tennessee law enforcement official.

The officers — Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith — were fired after police Chief C.J. Davis said they violated department policies during the Jan. 7 stop that led to Nichols’ death.

All five former officers were charged with second-degree murder, two counts of official misconduct, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, one count of official oppression and one count of aggravated assault, prosecutors announced.

Haley and Martin were being held in lieu of a $350,000 bond, while Bean, Mills and Smith will need to post $250,000 to leave custody, jail records showed.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation led the probe and agency director David Rausch said the video will be clear cut.
