Trump Calls for Drastic Measures After Supreme Court Announces They Can’t Identify Abortion Opinion Leaker

Published

on

Former President Donald Trump called for the arrest of the reporter and publisher who published the unprecedented leak of a draft opinion indicating the Supreme Court was preparing to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

Trump’s comments, which seem like obvious hyperbole given the First Amendment, come after the Supreme Court announced their investigation into the matter had failed to identify the person or persons responsible for the leak and they were essentially just shrugging their shoulders.

The report, released by the U.S. Supreme Court Marshal on Thursday, states that an investigative team was unsuccessful in their attempts to “identify a person responsible by a preponderance of the evidence” who leaked the draft opinion.

Trump called for drastic measures citing the importance of identifying the person who leaked the draft opinion.

“Arrest the reporter, publisher, editor – you’ll get your answer fast. Stop playing games and wasting time!” demanded Trump.

Supreme Court Draft Opinion Leak Published by Politico

Politico reported in May that the “Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision” citing “an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito” the outlet had obtained.

Reporters Josh Gerstein and Alexander Ward acknowledged the stunning breach of Supreme Court confidentiality and secrecy in their report.

“No draft decision in the modern history of the court has been disclosed publicly while a case was still pending,” they wrote.

Analysts at the time had suggested the unprecedented failure to secure the Court’s process was an intimidation tactic, “an attempt to pressure a Supreme Court justice to change his or her vote on the pivotal case.”

With the Court unable to identify the leaker, former President Trump is suggesting authorities go after the known entities who made the opinion public.

“They’ll never find out, & it’s important that they do,” Trump told his followers on social media.

“So, go to the reporter & ask him/her who it was. If not given the answer, put whoever in jail until the answer is given,” he pressed. “You might add the publisher and editor to the list.”

“Stop playing games, this leaking cannot be allowed to happen. It won’t take long before the name of this slime is revealed!”

Obviously, such actions would be very unconstitutional.

Put Lives of Conservative Justices in Danger

You may recall the seriousness of the leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade. It literally put the lives of the conservative justices in danger.

Shortly after Politico reported the leak, a memo from the Department of Homeland Security showed the government was dealing with significant threats being made against the Supreme Court Justices.

“Law enforcement agencies are investigating social-media threats to burn down or storm the Supreme Court building and murder justices and their clerks, as well as attacks targeting places of worship and abortion clinics,” a report by Axios indicated.

The leaked opinion led to several Justices being subjected to online threats, including publication of maps to their family homes, and culminating in an assassination attempt against Brett Kavanaugh and at least two others.

Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley described the Court’s inability to identify the person who leaked the draft opinion as “chilling.”

“The Supreme Court’s report indicates that they cannot isolate the culprit among the over 80 possible suspects for the Dobbs leak,” Turley tweeted. “It is an admission that is almost as chilling as the leak itself.”

Senator Ted Cruz concurred, calling the news “deeply troubling.”

“The Supreme Court depends on trust to deliberate and this leak is incredibly damaging to the Court’s ability to function normally,” he tweeted. “The leaker must be brought to justice!”

Top Iowa Republicans Freeze Trump Out And Don’t Return His Calls

Published

on

Top Iowa Republicans from the governor on down aren’t returning Donald Trump’s phone calls and are not committing to support him in 2024.

Bloomberg reported:

The former president, itching to seal up support early in what remains a key state in the Republican presidential contest, has checked in with Iowa influencers who have stood by him in the past.

Senators Chuck Grassley and Governor Kim Reynolds didn’t answer when he telephoned recently, and neither of them are willing to give their party’s former leader their nod this early, according to people familiar with the matter. Nor are Joni Ernst or other top state elected officials.

Republicans are not so subtlety freezing Donald Trump out. It isn’t 2016 anymore or even 2020. Trump expected the Republican Party to line up behind him, but instead, they are pretending like they are too busy to take his calls.

Trump’s strength is with the rank and file of the Republican Party. Unlike Democrats, the Republican Party has been driven by a fear of the base. Democrats tend to try to appeal to their base and move with them. Republicans live in terror of the base turning on them and tossing them out of office.

If the Republican leadership decides to rally around someone else, but the base stays with Trump, the odds are that weak elected Republicans will rally around the former president, but so far Republicans in Iowa are seeing Trump’s number and refusing to pick up.

Five ex-Memphis police officers were charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping on Thursday in the death of a black motorist.

The officers, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith – were fired on Friday after the motorist, Tyre Nichols, died following a violent confrontation during a January 7 traffic stop.

Video of the police officers beating Tyre Nichols will be released on Friday at 6 pm local time, the DA said.

“The actions of all of them resulted in the death of Tyre Nichols and they are all responsible,” Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy told reporters.

NBC News reported:

Five former Memphis police officers were indicted Thursday on murder charges in the death of Tyre Nichols, whose beating following a traffic stop was captured on video that “sickened” a top Tennessee law enforcement official.

The officers — Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith — were fired after police Chief C.J. Davis said they violated department policies during the Jan. 7 stop that led to Nichols’ death.

All five former officers were charged with second-degree murder, two counts of official misconduct, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, one count of official oppression and one count of aggravated assault, prosecutors announced.

Haley and Martin were being held in lieu of a $350,000 bond, while Bean, Mills and Smith will need to post $250,000 to leave custody, jail records showed.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation led the probe and agency director David Rausch said the video will be clear cut.

Trump 2020 Attorney John Eastman Faces Disbarment in California

Published

on

California State bar regulators filed disciplinary actions against conservative lawyer John Eastman due to his efforts in trying to overturn the 2020 election for Donald Trump. The state seeks to disbar Eastman, who once clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas.

“The Office of Chief Trial Counsel (OCTC) intends to seek Eastman’s disbarment before the State Bar Court,” the state bar of California wrote in a news release about the filing.

The filing contains 11 charges arising from allegations that “Eastman engaged in a course of conduct to plan, promote, and assist then-President Trump in executing a strategy, unsupported by facts or law, to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election by obstructing the count of electoral votes of certain states.”

They specifically cited Eastman’s “false and misleading statements regarding purported election fraud, including statements on January 6, 2020, at a rally in Washington, D.C., that contributed to provoking a crowd to assault and breach the Capitol to intimidate then-Vice President Pence and prevent the electoral count from proceeding.”

They add, “Eastman now faces multiple charges that he violated Business and Professions Code section 6106 by making false and misleading statements that constitute acts of ‘moral turpitude, dishonesty, and corruption.’”

“There is nothing more sacrosanct to our American democracy than free and fair elections and the peaceful transfer of power,” the State Bar of California’s Chief Trial Counsel George Cardona said. “For California attorneys, adherence to the U.S. and California Constitutions is their highest legal duty. The Notice of Disciplinary Charges alleges that Mr. Eastman violated this duty in furtherance of an attempt to usurp the will of the American people and overturn election results for the highest office in the land—an egregious and unprecedented attack on our democracy—for which he must be held accountable.”

Eastman, who crafted two infamous “coup memos” in an attempt to circumvent the peaceful transition of power to 2020 winner now President Joe Biden, is the director of the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence at the conservative Claremont Institute, where he is a member of the Board of Directors and a senior fellow.

Eastman has not been charged with any crime. This was a notice of charges filed, which are only allegations at this point.

Eastman was also referred to the DOJ for potential criminal charges by the House January 6th Committee on two counts. One is based on alleged obstruction of an official proceeding and the second is conspiracy to defraud the United States.
